ADRIE'S HOUSE OF HOPE was built by the Rotary Clubs of Lincoln and Niagara-on-the-Lake (Canada) in 2005 as part of a group of homes to provide a safe, happy and healthy environment for the orphaned, abandoned and/or abused children from the Nomzamo and Lwandle Townships, near Cape Town, South Africa. With Mama Lumka and her dedicated staff loving and caring for them, these children, who are from a sad and often abusive background, can enjoy a childhood filled with Love, Hope and Laughter at Ikhalaythemba Village.
A vegetable garden has been established, and an egg-producing project well under way, so the village is able to help feed itself. We are hoping to help build a bakery on the grounds, to bake enough bread to feed the children and staff, and to sell the excess to the local community (along with the extra eggs the hens are producing). The directors of the project also reach out to the community by offering skills training, including sewing classes and English language courses.
