Community Collaboration / Random Act of Kindness Day 2017

Random Act of Kindness Day 2017

Kindness is about to hit Niagara as the region gears up for Random Act of Kindness Day.

This year’s Random Act of Kindness Day takes place Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, and residents of Niagara are encouraged to embrace the spirit of the day by paying forward small acts of kindness.

In previous years, kind acts have included surprise visits to school kids from Niagara IceDogs mascot Bones and the Niagara Region’s Waste Management Mascots. Niagara College and Brock University students have partnered with the Snow Buddies program and raked leaves for seniors.

The District School Board of Niagara, the Niagara Catholic District School Board and Niagara Regional Police will be partnering to spread and recognize kindness at our Niagara high schools. This initiative is being supported by the Niagara River Lions and YMCA of Niagara.

“Every day is a great day to show kindness to others, but it’s important to have a day where we shine a light on the kindness we see all the time here in Niagara,” says Niagara Community Foundation Executive Director Bryan Rose.

“Niagara has always been a caring and generous community. People here understand that even a little act of kindness can make someone’s day feel better, and that’s something worth celebrating,” Rose says.

Residents are encouraged to pick up Random Act of Kindness cards to pass along with each kind deed they perform. RAK cards can be picked up at any Meridian Credit Union branch.

The Niagara Community Foundation invites everyone to share their kind deeds on Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #RAKday. You can follow Random Act of Kindness Day Niagara on Twitter at @RAKDayNiagara and on Facebook at facebook.com/rakdayniagara.

Created in 2000, the Niagara Community Foundation has raised more than $40 million in endowment funds, where the capital is invested, and has granted more than $9 million to charities working in the arts, heritage, environment, social services, health, education, recreation and community development.  The Foundation is fully accredited with Imagine Canada’s Standards Program which is designed to strengthen public confidence in the charitable and non-profit sector.
